News from Brussels / Week 19-25 June 2017

Last week, the European Commission proposed new transparency rules for tax advisors, accountants, banks and lawyers. The European Parliament auditioned the Bulgarian commissioner-designate in charge of the digital portfolio Maria Gabriel. The Council extended its sanctions on Russia and reaffirmed its commitment to the Paris Agreement as a response to Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the deal. The EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier held his first talks with U.K. Brexit Secretary David Davis. The Maltese presidency reached an agreement with the European Parliament to strengthen consumer protection law.

Transparency Register / Lobbying Regulation in the EU

On 28th September 2016, the European Commission submitted a proposal for an „Interinstitutional Agreement on a mandatory Transparency Register“ (IIA). The IIA is to be based on the existing voluntary transparency register of the European Parliament and the Commission from 2014 and to create a robust system ensuring transparent lobbying.

News from Brussels / Week 12 - 16 December 2016

Last week the EU took one further step towards the abolition of roaming charges. The Parliament revised the rules of procedure and introduced new rules for lobbying. The Council supports the agenda on strengthening European farmers and together all three institutions made a pledge to give special priority to fast-track legislative work.
